Sean McColl is a 29 years old climber who has been competing for the past 19 years. He’s from Vancouver although has been living in France on and off since 2011.
Sean McColl’s versatility has helped him to become one of the best all-around climbers in the world; his bouldering technique and his lead skills are top shelf.
Since Sean started competing he has been 33 times on World Cup Podiums, he has been 4 times Combined World Champion (4 Open, 5 Junior) and 2 times World Cup Overall Champion.
He was only 10 when he first tried climbing at a friend’s birthday party and then he started climbing with his family as something to do all together.
When did you decide to start competing?
I entered my first competition after only 3 months of climbing. I went in the beginner category and I ended up winning!
How did your passion change?
My passion for climbing has always been constant but I am very happy to keep constantly discover new parts of climbing. Indoor, outdoor boulder or lead. I would even love to try big walls and crack climbing but I can't cram all of it into my already full calendar!
What’s your favourite climber?
My favourite climbers are those that can excel in different styles/disciplines or genres. I like climbers that get excited for others when they do well, that is the spirit of our sport.
How do you feel about the last result in Wroclaw of the World Games?
With inclusion into The Olympic Games, this might be the last World Games that we do so it was a personal goal to come back with a medal. Not only is qualifying for The World Games extremely hard but I climbed very well and I'm over the moon about my medal.
