Matteo Pigoni

Running on mountain tracks is one of the few moments when I can be alone.

I was born on 9 September 1974 in Fiorano Modenese (Modena). I’m married to Annalisa and we have two children, 15-year-old Giorgia and 11-year-old Riccardo. I began running as a child, starting with multi-disciplines, from middle-distance running to half marathons, from marathons to triathlons and duathlons, from eco-marathons to ultra trails. Racing has always been a part of my life - the motivation to run comes from within, there’s no specific reason. The races that suit me most are those ranging from 40 to 80 km. Given my build I prefer long, hard climbs. Usually I train every day without a fixed routine and I alternate running, mountain biking, cycling and, recently, climbing. The most beautiful race I remember was the Dolomites Sky Run for its route and its meaning. The worst was TOR 2015, where the weather left its mark and I had to withdraw from the race.
